The reply came the same afternoon, not a script, a person asking whether she needed a dedicated graphics chip (she didn't, so I saved money) and suggesting a lighter model with a long battery claim. Two weeks in she says it runs cool, the keyboard is comfortable at night and the battery really does last her through lectures. Box was double wrapped and the charger was already in the box.

Okay, so I built my first PC over a long weekend and ordered about eleven parts here: board, case fans, a poooower supply, thermal paste, a pile of cable extensions. Everything came in labelled bags and nothing was crushed, which sounds trivial until you have unboxed from the usual big sellers. The power supply fan stays off until real load, my temps sit in the high thirties idle, and the cable extensions made the case look like a catalogue photo. One fan arrived with a bent pin and a replacement was mailed the next day, no photos asked. I'm already planning an upgrade.
